Cargurra Farm has a range of self catering holiday cottages near Boscastle, about 17 miles from Launceston. Our cottages are the perfect place from which to explore Boscastle, Tintagel and the North Cornwall Area.
Launceston is the former capital of Cornwall, and is situated on the A30 near the border with devon.
The town is domintated by its castle, it is Norman motte and bailey design and may have been built as early as 1067. It was built by Robert, Count of Mortain, half-brother of William the Conqueror shortly after the Norman conquest. In the 12th century an inner keep was added and in the 13th century Richard, Earl of Cornwall began to rebuild the castle in stone. A new great hall was constructed within the 12th century bailey, which remained in use until the early 1600. In the late 13th century, the administrative centre of Cornwall moved from Launceston to Lostwithiel.
In 1646 the castle was used as the base for the Cornish Royalist defence of Cornwall
